You’ll find no end of fun activities and places to visit during your stay in Dieppe - from peaceful afternoons watching the boats bob up and down in the port to sampling tasty seafood freshly caught that very day.
Visit Chateau-Musee atop the cliffs
Take a trip to this impressive old fortress overlooking the ocean to find interesting paintings and relics from Dieppe’s history. The museum is split into different collections, from an area dedicated to archaeology to another featuring items from local maritime history. Whatever your interest, you’re sure to find something in this incredible museum.
Spend an afternoon on Dieppe’s beach
Dieppe’s beach was painted by the famous artist Claude Monet in 1882, making it a must-visit for fans of his work. While it is pebbly, it’s a firm favourite for tourists and locals alike. Spend a long afternoon enjoying the gentle sound of the waves. In the summer months, beach huts are erected and made available to rent - offering some privacy for you and your family to change and get out of the sun.
Stop by the local religious buildings
There are various churches and monasteries peppered around Dieppe that are simply fascinating if you have an interest in religious architecture. Saint Jacques Church is a medieval structure with impressive Gothic features and a 40m (130ft) tower that’s stood proud since the 15th century. Saint-Remy Church is another must-see with a gorgeous wood panelled area for the choir and Renaissance decoration in the treasury. The Chapelle Notre Dame de Bonsecours is another stunning structure, which was constructed on the eastern side of Dieppe’s harbour for the mariners who came and went.
Plan a visit around the Dieppe Kite Festival
Every two years in September the skies of Dieppe are filled with colour and fun as people from around the world gather to showcase their spectacular kite designs. Dieppe’s kite festival is free to attend and offers a day of fun for children and adults alike. It takes place on the stretch of green lawn between the sea and the town. There’s an artistic theme set each year with kites then created to match it.
Stop by the Sunday market
Dieppe’s Sunday market is a must-see. It takes place each week with stalls selling everything from local produce to handcrafted jewellery and clothing. The market is full of life, and is perfect for a Sunday stroll. It’s recommended you take cash along with you, as the queue at the nearby ATM can be very busy. Park your rental car further down the street and walk the rest of the way to avoid waiting for a space to become available.
