Standing tall over sparkling blue water, Castello di Miramare is one of Trieste’s hidden gems. This 19th century castle sits upon a rocky cliff beside the sea, with the pale white architecture radiating an unmistakably regal appearance.
You can explore this magnificent neo-gothic building at your own leisure. As many of the rooms inside have been perfectly preserved or restored, you’re guaranteed to feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The garden is equally as fantastic, featuring exotic plants and tropical trees.
Stroll along the Golfo di Trieste
Head away from the centre to the coast and you’ll be rewarded with the most beautiful views across the gulf. It’s the perfect stroll to accompany your trip to Castello di Miramare, as this majestic castle calls this particular coast its home.
The turquoise blue sea appears endless, glimmering under the warm sun. Go as the sun sets for a more romantic experience, with the orange glow complementing the blue waves in the most incredible manner. Either way, it makes for a wonderful stroll, as you’ll get to see white ships bobbing along when facing the sea and a selection of stunning buildings when glancing behind. Discover masterpieces at the Museo Revoltella
Founded in 1872, the lavish Museo Revoltella was once home of resident merchant Pasquale Revoltella. With an immense collection of 19th and 20th century art, his majestic home was transformed into a grand museum upon his passing.
Inside the beautiful white stone building you’ll find more than 350 paintings and sculptures, as well as temporary exhibitions. Notable artists include Giuseppe Tominz, Francesco Hayez and Giuseppe De Nittis, with their works displayed over six floors.
