There are plenty of things to see and do on the island of Menorca. If you’re looking to build up an itinerary that can be easily enjoyed by car, here are some of the best options.
Explore the path around the island
While we don’t imagine you’ll walk the full 180km around the island, there’s an array of stunning walking routes to choose from along Menorca’s coastline. The Cypress Tree walk is a popular choice - simply drive from Mahon using the PM704 road to the quaint village of Sant Climent. At the village, continue south for around 2km towards Canutells then turn left and park the car in the gateway - just ensure you don’t obstruct passing vehicles.
Once you’re parked up, tie those laces and enjoy a scenic 2km stroll through this rustic, rural area of Menorca, which is dotted with quaint farmhouses. The sea always just visible as you make your way along the track.
Take a look around Ciutadella de Menorca
The Gothic architecture of this small city in the west of the island is worth investigating while in Menorca. The port city is easy to reach by car from the airport and Mahon, making it great for day trips.
Ciutadella was actually the former capital of the island and its coastal location means its restaurants serve up some of the most delicious seafood dishes. Be sure to also check out the incredible convent of Santa Clara with its stunning whitewashed walls.
Splash in the water at Cala Galdana
This stunning crescent bay is a picture-perfect spot to lay down a towel for an afternoon and enjoy the sun. With clear, shallow waters and plenty of places to grab a drink or a bite to eat close by it’s a popular spot for many.
When it comes to parking your rental car, you’ll find two parking lots situated close by (as well as street parking). Do bear in mind that during the busier summer months these will be sought after by those visiting the beach.
Visit the Binibeca Vell - the Fisherman’s Village
Designed and constructed in the 1970s, this unusual settlement was created by architect Antonio Sintes Mercadal. He wanted to recreate the look and feel of a traditional Moorish fishing village.
Explore the labyrinth of grey two-storey houses and cobbled lanes, before stopping off at one of the many restaurants serving up deliciously fresh seafood. We then recommend finding a spot in a bar - Sa Musclera is a popular location - and spending the afternoon people-watching while sipping a cafe cortado.
Immerse yourself in history at Fort Marlborough
Built in the 1720s to protect Mahon and its port, Fort Marlborough offers a quaint slice of Menorcan history to immerse yourself in for an afternoon.
There are regular battle re-enactments taking place around its walls that you can enjoy. You’ll witness uniformed soldiers recreating scenes from the island’s historic past.
