What to see and do in Zaragoza
La Aljafería Palace
La Aljafería Palace is one of the finest examples of Moorish architecture outside Andalusia. Built in the 11th century, the palace is filled with ornate interiors and archways covered with delicate carvings. The palace – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragón – is now home to the parliament of Aragón. Guided tours are available.
Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar
The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is a striking example of baroque architecture. It stands on the site where many believe Saint James saw the Virgin Mary appear, who gave him a column around which the church was built. Along with beautiful interiors, you can take an elevator to the top and experience stunning views of the city.
Museo Goya
The famous Spanish artist, Francisco de Goya, was born in the nearby town of Fuendetodos in the 18th century. The Museo Goya is one of the top places to experience his work. The museum hosts a wide collection of his pieces, including 14 of his paintings.

Casa Lac is reportedly Spain’s oldest restaurant, having opened its doors in 1825. The head chef at the restaurant is famed for his vegetable-focused dishes. Placing an emphasis on seasonal vegetables, he transforms them into delicious delicacies, from tapas to tasting menus.
Méli Melo
After a trip to the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar, head to Méli Melo, just 10-minutes walk away. Dine on a tasty tapas and pinxtos – similar to tapas but served on a stick – enjoyed in an intimate, cozy setting.
La Pilara
Located in El Tubo, the tapas district, La Pilara is the ideal place to go with friends to share raciones, full-plate servings of tapas. The interiors are something to be marvelled at too, with red walls covered in old posters and advertisements, and a bar that is held up by large wine corks.
