Wondering what must be on your itinerary during your visit to Guernsey? We’ve rounded up some of the best things to see and do during your drive around the island – from tiny chapels to tall towers.
See the smallest chapel in the world
Standing just 16ft tall, this chapel is considered to be one of the smallest consecrated churches in the world. It was created by Brother Déodat, who had come to live in Guernsey from his homeland of France.
The chapel was created to replicate one in Lourdes and is decorated with seashells and broken china, creating a stunning effect. The chapel is free to visit and is a must-see while on the island.
Climb Victoria Tower
Situated in St Peter Port, Victoria Tower offers incredible across Guernsey. It’s ideal if you’re a budding photographer looking for the perfect snap to show your friends back home.
Entrance is free to the tower but drop by the Guernsey Museum first to retrieve the key that allows you to enter. Climb up the steps - there are about 90 in total with a place to rest halfway - and see Guernsey from a whole new perspective.
Drop in for Tennerfest
During the month of October and November, the restaurants in Guernsey create incredible set menus with two or three courses that you can enjoy for just £10 – hence the name Tennerfest.
This means you can sample a selection of local dishes from a range of restaurants without the need to worry if you are on a tighter budget. From gourmet delights to hot and spicy tiki-inspired dishes, you’ll enjoy a full stomach for less during this time of year on the island.
Shop for handmade jewellery
Guernsey is a fantastic place for jewellery lovers, whether they are looking to add to their collection or take home gifts for loved ones. The island is VAT-free, which means you won’t have to work out the sales tax in your head before you get to the register.
Becky Rowe is a popular jewellery maker located on Grande Rue. Be sure to also stop by Martyn Guille Silversmiths if you’re visiting the Little Chapel. Here you’ll find sea life inspired designs and delicate pieces created with only the finest silver.
Take a day trip to one of the nearby islands
Herm, Sark and Alderney are all available to visit during your time in Guernsey - just ensure you book ahead to reserve a place on the ferry as spaces get filled up quick on these excursions.
On Herm, you can see cute puffins in their natural environment between the months of April and July. Alderney is also a bird-watchers haven, with a large population of gannets that live on the island. Finally, Sark is the perfect spot for some uninterrupted stargazing as it has been designated the title of the world’s first dark sky island.
