Packed full of world-class attractions, this Texan city is one that’s not to be missed. As one of the biggest cities in the state, you’ll find gems in every corner of this sprawling metropolis – making car rental in Houston a necessity to see everything.
“Houston, we have a problem”
Get set for space explorations when you arrive in Houston. The city is famous for its NASA Johnson Space Center, a place where real astronauts come to train and where you can wander around to see more than 400 artifacts from out of this world.
You’ll be able to get up close to a real piece of rock from the moon, step foot inside a full-scale replica shuttle and even watch Mission Control in action. Stroll through the Starship Gallery to see most of the artifacts housed in the center or jump along the NASA tram tour for a behind-the-scenes look at everything from the Saturn V rocket to the training facility.
There are live talks by astronauts you can watch, as well as the immersive shows to watch in Destiny Theater. Make sure to spend a full day here, experiencing everything on offer.
Museum District
Spread across four zones, the Houston Museum District houses 19 museums. You’ll be able to park up your rental car and explore the area on foot.
If you’re travelling as a family, be sure to head to the Children’s Museum in Zone 4. Here, from running the stores to the government, kids rule the roost. They can also become undercover spies, build robots and tackle suspense courses – it’s an afternoon packed full of fun and adventure.
Another must-see while in the museum district is the Museum of Fine Arts. Among the 10 largest in the whole of the US, this museum is home to more than 65,000 masterpieces. Take some time to wander around exploring everything there is to see.
Soak up some sights
For family friendly fun, head across to the Downtown Aquarium. You can tour the marshland, see a shipwreck and explore the lush environment of a rain forest. This six-acre entertainment center comprises tonnes of activities to keep every member of the family engaged. With more than 300 species calling this aquatic habitat home, you can spend a day or so getting lost in this water-wonderland.
You can even get up close with some of the center’s friendly creatures, including bearded dragons, snakes and sea turtles. There plenty of places to eat and a selection of shops where you can pick up some souvenirs to take home.
