As the sun glistens against the snow and the fresh air hits your lungs, the world will feel right at your feet with car rental in Jackson Hole. Whether you’re staying in Jackson or at one of the mountain resorts, this is the place to embrace the great outdoors.
Hole lotta love
As you cruise the streets of Jackson, you could be forgiven for wanting to move here permanently. Cowboy saloons mingle with log cabins that gaze out onto the picturesque peaks and there’s wildlife all around you. It’s a place of serenity that makes for a magical experience.
It’s the ski slopes that bring many here, and the surrounding mountains are truly magnificent, rising thousands of feet and providing legendary slopes. If you’re here in summer, you can go mountaineering, paragliding, rope coursing and biking, or take things easy on the aerial tram ride. Take it to the top of Rendezvous Mountain and you’ll be soaring 10,000 feet above sea level.
Parks and peaks
The Grand Teton National Park spans over 300,000 acres, with something for everybody. Everything here is geared around the unforgettable sights and sounds of the great outdoors, with slopes and lakes combining to make this a playground for the adventurous. Canoe and paddleboard, fish and hike and keep an eye out for the plentiful local wildlife.
It’s hard to miss the native elk – especially at the National Elk Refuge which houses thousands of them during the winter months. It’s not just kids who’ll love the sleigh rides here – it’s a blast for grown-ups too.
They, and other wild animals, are celebrated in a different way at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, containing pieces by major wildlife and animal artists, some thousands of years old. The museum building itself is unique, reminiscent of a bygone castle.
Downtown Jackson
Skiing is one thing, après-ski is another. Downtown Jackson is a great place to enjoy the after-ski party, just be sure to leave the rental car at home. During the day you can tour the museums and galleries, while there are some great shops if you’re on a souvenir hunt – look out for the Native American crafts.
After the sun has gone down, you’ll find bars and restaurants with echoes of the area’s Wild West past. The Million Dollar Cowboy saloon is a kitsch delight, with a bar made of silver dollars and saddle seating. The venue, opened in 1937, has hosted country music royalty in its past, with live music playing most nights.
For food, look no further than the Gun Barrel for an elk chop, or Rendezvous for French-American classics. Snails, oysters, mussels and the perfect steak frites are the way to warm yourself up before another day on the slopes.
