A medieval city in the heart of rural East Anglia, Norwich has served as a meeting point and cultural hub for more than a thousand years.
This legacy remains today – the city enjoys a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and thriving cultural scene.
Culture that steps to its own beat
Norwich Castle is the city’s key landmark, and in true Norwich style, it offers the perfect blend of old and new. This square fortification has stood for nine hundred years and now houses a range of fascinating exhibits. Step inside to learn about the history of decorative arts, take in interactive historical displays and view collections dedicated to natural history.
Norwich was the first UNESCO City of Literature – it’s an exclusive club, since just 20 cities across the world have been granted this title. There are also several impressive theatres – the Norwich Theatre Royal is the most renowned, but you can also see quirky shows at the Maddermarket Theatre, the Puppet Theatre or the Norwich Playhouse.
Don’t miss out on shopping at the independent retailers of Norwich Lanes either. The trendy, lamp-lit boutique streets were crowned Great British High Street of the Year in 2014.
