Combining stunning views across the Missouri River, with a mix of thriving city and the traditional Old Market, driving around Omaha, Nebraska is a joy.
If you’re travelling to Omaha by plane, you’re in luck - Omaha Eppley Airport is only a ten-minute drive from the centre. Head down US-75 N to arrive in Omaha’s main attractions in no time, including the famous Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge.
Omaha is well connected to the Interstate Highway system, meaning it’s easy to visit from other states and is a great base from which to explore the surrounding areas. Heading north, I-680 connects Omaha to its Nebraskan neighbour, Iowa. Meanwhile, you can visit Norfolk by heading north-west on Nebraska Highway 64.
Throughout Nebraska and the rest of the US you’ll be driving on the right side of the road in a left wheel vehicle. Drivers and passengers must always wear a seatbelt and use of a cell phone whilst driving is against the law.
Speed limits are measured in miles per hour and are well signposted. Highway speed limits are generally 70mph (112km/h) but interstates limits can go as high as 80mph (130km/h). When you’re driving in school zones and other rural areas limits drop to as low as 30mph (50km/h).
From a bustling city to the quaint cobbled streets of its Old Market, Omaha is the sort of city offering something for every taste. Pay a visit to this wonderful location for a unique US experience.
In Downtown Omaha, rolling along the eastern edge of the city, stretches the Missouri River. The riverfront here is full of life and has plenty to offer to the tourists and locals of Omaha.
At 3,000 feet long, the Bob Kerry Pedestrian Bridge is an architectural splendour. Stretching across the Missouri – linking Nebraska and Iowa - the bridge offers pedestrians a spectacular view of the city’s skyline. It’s also a fantastic sight to behold in its own right – the curving walkway suspended between two towers. The bridge is connected to various nature trails, making it a fantastic link for those wanting to walk or cycle further afield.
Also on the riverfront, the Heartland of America Park and Fountain is a must-see. Take a moment to relax from the bustling city and enjoy the views of the fountain shooting water up to 320-feet into the sky.
Another park to enjoy by the river, Lewis & Clark Landing stretches across 23 acres, offering visitors the chance to take in the scenery, visit the Omaha Firefighter’s Memorial Monument, or simply enjoy some peace. With a beautiful view of the river, the park is also a regular spot for outdoor concerts and exhibitions.
Just a 10-minute drive from the riverfront on S 49th Avenue, you’ll find culinary adventures in the Dundee Neighbourhood.
While Omaha has plenty of great eateries across the city, this is the place where you’ll discover dishes from all around the world.
Try the famous coal-fired pizza at Pitch Pizzeria. They also offer a diverse menu of pies, pastas and other appetizers, but it’s the pizza that most come here for. For cheese and meat lovers, the Mia Pizza comes with fresh mozzarella, house-made sausage and spicy pepperoni.
Once you’ve indulged in a pizza-pie, head to eCreamery for dessert. This ice cream parlour offers a variety of inventive flavours that are all made in-house.
It wouldn’t be right to make a trip to Omaha without visiting the Old Market. With a rich history of arts and diverse culture, places to shop and try delicious food, and local musicians serenading you as you explore, it’s an experience you’ll remember.
One of the Old Market’s most famous stores - and a real treat for those in search of year-round festivities – is the Tannenbaum Christmas Shop. No matter what time of year you’re visiting, you’ll be able to take home some decorations.
The Old Market stretches across several blocks of beautifully cobbled streets and is lined with charming buildings, quirky stores and art galleries. Visit the Artist’s Cooperative to see exhibits of fine art created by talented artists such as Tozzy Bridger, a local printmaker.
A visit to Omaha will offer you architectural gems, charming sights, a bustling city to explore and quaint spots to relax and enjoy the view. Enjoy everything you and more with car rental in Omaha.
